adding a watcher that is outside your security level

Is it possible to add watcher to request in Jira SD that is not part of the security level? I have tried this and I get errors. If this is not possible can I put in "add participants" and change the notification so that they are alerted when a change to the request is made? please advise...thank you

It doesn't make sense to add watchers to an issue they cannot see.

There's no point in doing it - Jira respects the security and won't be sending them notifications or letting them see the issue, so what's the point in having them as a watcher?

Nic...the point is that adding them as watcher would provide the watcher access to view that one ticket...and no others in that security level

Argh, no. That is absolutely not what watchers are for.

And you can't do it anyway, watchers are not an option for permissions or security levels.

Logically it should work. If the request is not part of security level, you should be able to add participants to it, so that they are alerted for any changes made to the request.
Anyway, can you please share what errors did you get ?
