Hi Community,

I need your help to see if this is possible and how to implement it:

Solution for reserving car parking.

We have a limited number of parking slots, and we need a way to reserve a slot whenever we come to the office.

Restrictions/Requirements:

• Reserve for the Morning (08:00-14:00), Afternoon (14:00-20:00), or the entire day (08:00-20:00).
• Reservations can be made a maximum of 48 hours in advance.
• Users can cancel their reservations.
• Users should only see the available slots during the reservation process.

Is this something that can be done in Jira?

Hi @Humberto Gomes ,

I'll start by saying solving for reservations is not something Jira or JSM does particularly well, and there are likely other products out there that will serve this need better. There are a few Apps on the Marketplace that seem to support reservations. I have used neither of them, so I can't say how beneficial they will be, but here's a link to review: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?query=reservation&product=jira&hosting=cloud

With that said, I can think of a (slightly complex) solution to get reservations created, but this will highly depend on how many parking spots you have. This solution doesn't scale well, so more parking means more manual effort.

Here's a summary of what I had in mind:

• Create a JSM project specific for reservations
• Configure an Assets Object Schema to hold the parking spots, and their "Reserved" status
• Configure the JSM project so that when a new ticket is created, it shows only the parking spots that have "Available" as an option
  • Users should be able to select up to 2 entries (to capture the "full" day option)
• Once a ticket is created, have an automation update the selected parking spots to "Reserved"

And to populate the list of parking spots:

• Create 2 automation routines that, every day, create new parking spot entries (one for each half-day), 2 days in advance
• Create 1 automation that deletes old parking spot entries the day after they expire

The more nuanced details will need to be figured out, but broad strokes, that should be able to capture some level of the reservation need.

I’ve tested it, and it works very well.

Concerns:

No support seems to be available as it appears this was a quick solution, possibly developed during a hackathon or similar event.
