does anyone know why we are not able to include a Jira custom field in a Basic Query ?

Mona Slaunwhite June 4, 2019

Hello All,

We currently have several custom fields which are used in our Jira projects and we are able to query on them just fine when using the Advanced query option. However, when trying to use the Basic query option, the custom fields cannot be added.

We get a tooltip indicating that the field is not applicable for the current project and/or issue type. This is odd because it is used all the time in the project and issue type and can be used in an Advance query.

Does anyone know how to make them available for users who are more comfortable using the Basic query option ?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Cheers,

Mona

however the field can be included in an Advanced Query

The advanced search does not do the same level of context checking that the basic one does, it lets you put in fields that might not be valid for the current project/issue-type in case what you're typing later might draw it in.

so when you click on More and start typing the custom field nothing is found?

please provide more details:

  • type of custom field
  • name of field
  • screenshot where it is not shown

This happens when you go to the "More" drop down and select one of the custom fields?

yes exactly

So for the given project/issue have you verified the field is in scope?

For example, is it on a screen for that project/issue? (Of course that's just the easy 1st step) It's easy when you have multiple projects & fields that include the same word (i.e. Client) to miss one.

If you have multiple projects/issues in your query narrow down the selection to focus your trouble shooting.

(Just a suggestion)
