how to create gadgets for Jira?

to support tour users we created a REST API to allow project leads to manage (add remove) users from groups that are in their project (like a group in operations role).

currently the project leads needs to go to the .cgi tool we built, however we would like to build a gadget and add it to their dashboard.

I was looking at Atlassian documents and the tutorial to create gadget is old and it is specified it will not work with version 6 and 7... so i'm looking for an update tutorial for beginners and later for advance.

if anyone can point me to a relevant page online (maybe YouTube tutorial if exists) I'll appreciate it very much!
