If You have key-XX, You can just open issue directly http://yourjira/browse/key-XX
Where key - it is project key and you can search by "project = key" (also in basic)
You mean search by number without key?

I was wondering if there was a way to search for an issue directly from the basic screen.
If I click on "more" in the basic search the KEY field is not present. I will tell users to use the quick search. In the on premise version the quick search is more convenient because it is always available at the top right.

If you just want to search for a single issue you can type the issue key in the search box.
But to search for multiple issue keys you will need to use the Advanced Search.
