how to use context and default values for custom fields?

Hai,

I have a Jira demo project in that project I don't know what is the use of context and default values for custom fields and how to use context and default values for custom fields?

Hi @jeevan

Hope you are doing well!!

Default Values:

• So you have created one drop-down field for example Department and you have created options called HR, Finance, etc. You have made the default value for the Department field is HR. 
• So when you create a issue and at the time of creating an issue you didn't select any value for Department field so it will take the default value as HR.

Field Context: 

• field context is nothing but you can use the same field across projects with Different option or values.

@Mayur Jadhav but I have a Jira demo project there and that project name is Flipkart delivery and in that project, I created one custom field like AMONT TYPE. In that custom field, I created some options like phone pay and cash on delivery and credit card, etc then how to give default value and context to that custom field?

1. You need to open the custom field from Setting Cog >Issues>Custom field.
2. Search for the field and at the right side click on 3dot and click on context and default value.

            

       3.  You need to click on the Edit default value in order to set default value and Click on add new context in order to create new context.
