if I have changed the setting of 'required' to a custom field that is in use in many screen schemes-

two questions:

1) the field exists on one issue type in many screen schemes, will this then make it mandatory for all screen schemes that use that custom field

2) do i need to re-index if I have modified the field to be 'required' when used?

Any project the field configuration is used on will require the field at creation time regardless of whether it is on the screen or not. Field configurations control the required/optional flag, not the screen schemes. 

Re-indexing should't be required.
