manage cross teams initiatives in cloud structure

Hila Matsa September 7, 2022

team backlog is managed in structure, using the following Jira Hierarchy:

Initiative --> HL Epic --> Epic --> Story/Task/Bug

every team issues has unique identification based on their "scrum team" value

the generator looks like this (based on previous consulting that cab be found here:

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/How-to-get-rid-of-duplicate-issues-in-Jira-structure/qaq-p/2076254#M543141)

Generator (same per team with different filter):
project = RND AND "Scrum Team" = "Customer Exp (Roman Y)"AND ((issuetype = Initiative) or (issuetype in (epic, bug, story, Task) AND filter != "10981" and "Epic Link" is EMPTY))

Filter:
project = RND and "Scrum Team" = "Customer Exp (Roman Y)" and (issuetype in (Epic, story, bug, task) and issuelinktype in ("HL EPIC Link") OR issuetype = "HL Epic" and issuelinktype in ("Initiative Link"))
order by created DESC

The problem is that there are initiatives from other teams, contains epics for this team, which i cannot see in this structure if i link them to the correct "HL Epic" and initiative, since it belongs to a different team hance needs to be somehow added to the structure with the top hierarchy (i would like to be able to see the Epic, HL Epic and Initiative)

i thought about trying to look for initiatives that has "HL Epics" that has Epics with "scrum team = Customer Exp (Roman Y)" using a predefined filter, however i didn't manage to use "issueInitiativeOf" suggested by Jira or any other way for such a query, can you assist in any way ?

Thx,

Hila

Hello @Hila Matsa ,

Another way to build your Structure would be to start by inserting your Epics.  You could then Group by Issue Links to get your HL Epics and then again to get your Initiatives.

Please feel free to contact our support team directly via email support@almworks.com or customer portal support.almworks.com. The team will be more than happy to review your use case and provide suggestions.

Best,
David

Thanks,

I have manage to group by issue  link in order to get the HL Epics, however i am not able to get the initiatives by grouping again, no matter what group level i'm choosing.

It might be due to the fact the initiative link links Between HL Epic to Initiative and not between Epic and initiative, so i assume it is not seen by the structure :-(

Any idea how this can be solved?

another thing is that working this way, i'm losing the full project view of a specific initiative...i will only see the epics of this particular team, and not epics under an initiative that other team is working on...basically it means i'll need to maintain more than one structure for a team that leads 1 initiative and works for another... :-(

How can i overcome this problem ?

appreciate your thoughts,

Hila
