Hi there - I am aware I can't manually re-order stories and tasks in the 'to do' column on a Kanban board as I can in the Backlog view. What is happening is that every time I bring a new ticket to the board, from the Backlog to the 'to do' status, this new ticket goes to the top of the to do column in the Kanban board. I want this ticket to go to the bottom of the column. I don't know what could be changed in the board configuration to make this happen.
Hi efronza - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
You can't change where the ticket lands when it first hits the board. It follows a very complicated ranking process in Jira. You could change the board filter to change what you are doing the Order by for instead of Rank, but then you would lose the ability to drag cards up and down, so I wouldn't do that.
If you go to the board after you move the ticket to the To Do column, you can right click on it and send to the bottom very quickly.
Thank you @John Funk I don't have the option to send it to the bottom from the to do column in Kanban when I right click. Is this a configuration I need to enable?

Hi @John Funk I think I've figured what is going on: I have one project with a Kanban board, and within this project, I have another two to separate some workflows. In these two, we don't have the option to drag cards up and down or move tickets to the bottom. But in the main one, we do have this option. I would expect all to have the same functionality.

Hi @efronza -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Adding to John's suggestions...
When using the default filter sort of ORDER BY Rank ASC, work items appear on the board in the rank ordering selected from the backlog. There is no automatic option to move them to the top / bottom of a board column when added to the board...likely for several reasons: it ignores the customer selected ranking, etc.
Let's assume when an item is added to the leftmost column (e.g., To Do) you did want to always move it to the bottom of the list. That is possible using an automation rule and calling the REST API endpoint to re-rank the issue.
Before trying anything like that, I recommend discussing with your team "what problem are you trying to solve by doing this". That may help identify other possible solutions.
Kind regards,
Bill

Thank you @Bill Sheboy I've figured out why we are having this issue. It is not related to sort of ORDER BY Rank ASC. It is because we have two additional boards in our project. The functionalities I am referring to (and missing in these boards!) are available in the main one.

But you need to check the board filters for the other two boards where it doesn't work and make sure that the filters have ORDER BY Rank ASC in the filters

Hello @efronza ,
Can you check ORDER By of your Board filter?
First organize all the backlog items as per your requirement by drag and drop, and then Try ORDER BY Rank ASC at the end of your filter query
