Every time I paste any GitHub link on comments I get that error. When I click the link it opens normally. Does anybody knows what should I do?

Hello @Cesar_Izurieta ,

The  "You don't have permissions to view" authentication errors usually occur on the OAuth connection needing an additional trust authorization for the Key pair to github post configuration to allow jira access to github, also noting the account used needs to be admin on both ends Jira and github sides.

Check out the KB "Connect Jira Cloud to GitHub" under the section Connection Notes:

Connection notes

The connector does not automatically trust the key and secret. It asks you to authorize the DVCS connection using an account and password combination. The authorizing account need not be the account you used to create the key and secret, but it should have administrative access on all the repositories you want to link.

Regards,
Earl

Thanks Earl for your reply. I'm not an administrator, so in that case, I cannot paste links to github on jira? Or is this a mis-configuration that an administrator should look into?

Hi Earl. I clicked on the link that Jira shows besides "You don't have permission to view", and the GitHub OAuth dialog is asking for additional permission to "Read and write access to Gists". Why does Jira need permission to write to my gists (or even read them)?

Hi @Earl McCutcheon
Same problem here. Is it possible to disable the feature so that we keep plain links to github instead of the invasive link decoration ?

I just don't want nor need to link my github account to jira.

Best Regards

Julien

So in order for me to paste a github link I need to give atlassian

  • read and write privileges to my personal gists
  • access to my private repositories
  • access to the organizations I'm part of

Is this for real? I'm trying to paste in a link why do you need access to my personal repositories and to my employers repositories?

Please allow us to copy paste github links without trying to invade on privacy and access IP that you have nothing to do with.

@Earl McCutcheon

I think that each customer needs to DECIDE, if its good connect directly to github or not....

Can we request to disable this unrequested feature?

Integrations should be optional, not mandatory at all, when the product is outside of Atlassian products....

@Earl McCutcheon Is there a way to disable this feature? Our project is not hosted on Github but we want to link to helpful Github pages.  We do not wish to require our team or project managers to make Github accounts to simply follow Github links.

I have opened a ticket, and despite of the security issues, its beeing treated as an "feature suggestion".

So, we can simply follow and vote for this one

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-72429?focusedCommentId=2419145&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels%3Acomment-tabpanel&error=login_required&error_description=Login+required&state=2f8a3182-fc37-4766-b206-287c137e4d50

(and use the workarounds like, requesting the devs to not link accounts)
