"timeline" and "GanttChart" views - different start/end dates ?

Kapmeyer_ Jens April 10, 2025

Hello Community, I wonder why obviously the tasks in

"timeline" and "GanttChart" views seem to have different, independent from each other start/end dates ?

Meaning a task may have start/end dates congfigured in the Gantt view, but when I switch to timeline view, there are no start/end dates set yet, I have to enter new data here, and they are completely independent from those in the Gantt view.

Is that correct, and is so, what is the intend behind ?

best regards.

Jens

Hi Marc, hi Kinay,

thank you both!

Unfortunatily, it looks like I cannot view, let alone adjust the assosiaction of dates and fields, since this is configured by some amdin in the big company I guess. At least I don't see the "issue" button, that you showed me, or is there a trick?

best regards,

Jens

Hi Kapmeyer,

Thank you for your reply.

You are right, the screen is only visible for Jira admin.

This is because this configuration is for entire site. So you cannot change field to use for start/finish date only for your project.

Could you contact Jira administrator in your company if they can check the configuration ?

Hi Kinal,

thanks a lot! I will try to get an IT ticket internally.

best regards,

Jens

Hi Marc, thank you for your welcoming answer!

And sorry for my newbie inaccuracies in my question.

I am talking of a Jira Board, if I am correct. No 3rd party apps are involved. On the screenshots (did not fit into one screenshot for some reason) you can see my attempt to set up tasks with dates in the timeline view.

In the GanttChart view these dates are totally different.

....

Well goin through this, now I understand: The GanttChart *IS* the third party app, it is called by a link which is like:

https:// [my cooperation] corp.atlassian.net/projects/MOCCR?selectedItem=com.atlassian.plugins.atlassian-connect-plugin:jp.ricksoft.plugins.wbsgantt-for-jira__edit-link-gantt-software

so this is it. It is so seamless integrated into the user interface that I did not see I am outside of JIRA.

Thanks a lot for your hint !

I will mark this as solved if this is possible.

best regards,

Jens

Hi @Kapmeyer_ Jens

So a 3rd party app from the vendor Ricksoft is used

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?query=ricksoft

It can be that in the config of the gantt other date fields are used then the one on the timeline view of the Jira board.

Timeline view uses Start date and Due date fields, what is used for date setting in the gantt 3rd party app, could this be changed there?

Hi @Kapmeyer_ Jens and @Marc - Devoteam ,

My name is Mizuho from Ricksoft support.

Jens, thank you for using your app.

Marc, thank you for helping out here. I agree with you that the field used for start/finish date are different between timeline and WBS Gantt-Chart.

Here I just commented because I wanted to introduce where users can find which fields are used for Start/Finish date in WBS Gantt-Chart.

Please navigate to Cog icon > "Apps" > "Issues" under WBS Gantt-Chart.

You see the field association between the app field and Jira field.
For example in the screenshot below, it uses "Start date" field for start date and "Due date" field for finish date.

Issue-Jira-04-11-2025_02_13_PM.png

If these fields are the same for timeline start/finish date, the date should reflect between timeline and WBS Gantt-Chart.

Hi Kinay,

thank you for advising me.

After some searching I found this page, where the GanttChart adjustments are located I guess. But there is no start date end end date assosiation as I see ...

Best regards, Jens

Hi @Kapmeyer_ Jens

Welcome to the community.

Are you referring to a board timeline view, Jira Plans or in relation to a 3rd party app.

Both 1st options have no gantt charts, so I'm expecting a 3rd party app.

What app are you using and might their support department have an answer for you?
