reindexing jira

hello team

I see that ij jira there are two types of reindex:

1. Background re-index

2. Lock jira and rebuild index

But i asked to do a foreground reindex , i do not undestand what does it mean foreground reindex , and what the impact when we do it .

it's all explained here. Basically: 

Background reindex will take longer, but users will be able to continue using Jira without any impact.

Lock Jira and Rebuild index is faster but the entire instance is locked: nobody can access it and use it until the reindex is finished.

@Alexis Robert  I understand that but I need to know if forground reindex = lock Jira and rebuild Reindex ?

Or another type of reindex ?

Background reindex will not lock Jira.

Lock Jira and rebuild index  will lock Jira
