tracking features across multiple squads

Deleted user August 20, 2020

Hi There

Can I get some advice?

I have multiple projects & would like to track the progress of multiple features across multiple squads.  I could set up a JIRA board for each of my projects, then tag each of the features, although this seems clunky.

Is there any additional JIRA add ons I could use to help project managing in JIRA..?

Thanks

Hi @[deleted]

For this kind of team and project management, I'd consider what apps are available to aid with these.

I'd check out:

  • Advanced Roadmaps: This used to be called Jira Portfolio - and is only available with a Jira Premium licence. Advanced Roadmaps is an agile roadmapping tool, allowing you to see the big picture across all your projects, manage squads and capacity, set multi-project releases and manage dependencies. It also allows for customisation of the hierarchy above Epic.
  • BigPicture: This is a roadmap, resource and risk management app - allowing you to build out your program roadmap, allocate tasks to resources and manage cross-project work in one central location.
  • Structure: Visualisation and reporting at a Portfolio-level - this app also allows for a user defined hierarchy to provide a more structured approach to your work breakdowns.

I'd take a look at these and see if one closely aligns to your specific needs :)

Regarding BigPicture (which I'm affiliated with), yes, it's fitted for the multi-project and multi-squad environment.

Below is the full list of modules:

  • Overview (cross-project/program/portfolio view)
  • Scope (schedule)
  • Gantt chart
  • Resources
  • Roadmap
  • Program board
  • Teams
  • Risks
  • Reports
  • Calendar (new in BigPicture 8, to debut shortly)

If your teams love Trello, Azure DevOps, many Jira Cloud/Server instances, you'll be able to connect these tools to the new BigPicture ver. 8; also the BP8 should deliver a better cross-project overview -- the much desired drillable "single progress bar".

Hello Richard,

The described indeed can be done with our app Structure - you can create an individual structure for each of your projects or have a structure with a global overview of your projects and teams. Each structure contains a user-defined scope of Jira issues that can be visualized in the hierarchical form(the relationships are based on existing links between issues) and you can also apply additional organizing and, for example, group issues by certain fields such as Project, Assignee/Team etc. You can also work with issues right from your structures.

If you have any questions or you need assistance with anything, please feel free to contact us directly at support.almworks.com and we'll gladly help you.

We provide both, depending on the requirement and your goals. We definitely can help you to get started and share our recommendations and instructions so you can build structures and check it for yourself, this is free. So please contact us through our support portal, send us the requirements and some details about your current set-up, we'll analyze it and we can discuss it further from there.

Best regards,
