I'm unable to move issue type BUG from one project to another project. Both the project use the same Issue Type Scheme with Bug type added to it.

Start by telling us what "unable to move" means.

Are you unable to move it because the system crashes?  Or does an angry penguin jumps in front of the computer?  Or does it ask questions you cannot answer?  Or do you not have any "move" option at all?

If you are just trying to move an issue and it tells you "the issue type does not exist in the target project, so you need to give us what you want to change it to", I'm not really sure what the problem is?

You may not have permission to do so.  You need to have the "Move Issues" permission on both projects in the Permission Scheme.  If you do not have the permission on one of the projects, you will need to acquire the permission before attempting this again.

Thanks for your response. I do have permissions. The issue seems to be because my default scheme is missing the bug type issue. Any suggestions on how can I add it to the default scheme ?

For your understanding of JIRA.  JIRA is designed in a fashion where the actual settings are contained in a bucket.  That bucket can be applied to projects.  This is true for both Screens (fields), workflows, permissions, notifications.  Basically all the common configurations.  This allows you to apply multiple setting configuration with one single change to the project.  Now issue types are a little different where the scheme holds the values you want.  So all you should need to do is make sure both projects are using the same issue type scheme.

Go into your project administration screen, in there it will show a list of issuetypes.  If both projects have that issuetype in there.  You are good so far.  If not then follow these steps.

  1. In project settings, click on the issuetype screen scheme.
  2. in the top right you will see "Actions" click edit issue types
  3. Add your needed issue types.

That should be what you need to do.  If the move still isn't working, without seeing a picture of the exact error or the steps you are taking to do the move that is making you fail, I can't really tell you how to fix your problem.
