Recover an issue accidently move to trash

Terry September 17, 2021

I accidently moved a User Story to Trash. I  would like to recover it so that I do not have to recreate it and get another JIRA Issue Key.  I have done a  general web "Google" search and looked at the Community data but cannot find any instructions.

I am not the JIRA administrator. How can I recover the User Story from my Project's trash?

How did you "move a story to trash"?  Did you use "delete" from the options menu or is there some form of bin/trash you have in your project/system?

Hi @Terry ,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to recover a deleted issue in Jira Cloud. Once it is deleted it is gone forever.

As a solution, we developed Restore Deleted Issues app which keeps track of deleted issues and allow you to recover them. In order for the app to work, the app must have been installed at the time the issue is deleted. So, as a preventive action for future deletions you can try Restore Deleted Issues app. Hope it helps.

Image That an additional charge for a basic function.
Well thanks anyway. I will just create a new one, I am sure that my management is not interested in buying add-ons.

Hi Terry,

There is no Trash for issues. There is a Delete, which is permanent. How did you move the User Story to Trash?

Very sorry, but you are not going to be able to get it back.

As a rule, we do not delete any issues -just causes more problems potentially. So we have removed that from the Permission Schemes. So users must move the issue into a Done category like Cancelled or Rejected or Aborted or Discarded or something like that.

Then we set the Resolution field to Obsolete in a post function on the transition to that status in the workflow.
