there are a lot of repetitive tasks in Jira that are eating up my team’s time (like assigning tickets, updating statuses, and sending reminders).I feel like we’re doing the same manual work over and over again. How can I automate these tasks so my team can focus on actual work instead?
Hi @mimivi
Jira Automation is worth looking into when it comes to reducing repetitive work.
As a start I recommend identifying a set of tasks that happen frequently (things like assigning issues based on labels, transitioning statuses, etc…), or sending alerts when deadlines are approaching.
From there, go into Project Settings > Automation and create rules that trigger based on specific events.
For example, in my team I set up a rule that automatically assigns bugs to the right person based on components, and another one that moves an issue to “In Progress” once a developer starts working on it.
The cool this is that Jira even has pre-built automation templates that make it easy to get started.
To avoid automation conflicts, I recommend to check in every few weeks to see what’s working and tweak anything that needs adjustments.
Once you start automating, you’ll wonder why you ever did these things manually! (it seriously frees up time for more important work!)
Hope this was useful and let me know if you have any questions 😊

Note that in addition to the automation rules, there are several apps that provide solution to this specific problem, repeating tasks.
This has the most installation: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/37456/the-scheduler?hosting=cloud&tab=overview
You can find alternatives here: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?query=issue+schedule+&product=jira&hosting=cloud
I am not saying that these are better, but because automation rules are sort of universal Swiss knife kind tools, an app developed for this purpose may provide more functionality, flexibility.
