Hello @Lisa Rockhill  👋

If you want to get number of days the issue spend in status and the total number of days it took to close the issue I recommend you try Time in Status for Jira Cloud

Add-on generates 7 types of status time reports including the Assignee time one. It shows how long each assignee has been working on each issue. So you can easily track how the workflow of each assignee goes and whether some delays occur.

Add-on has a 30-day free trial version and free up to 10 users.
Please, let me know if you have any questions 😌

Hope it helps,

Hi @Lisa Rockhill

You can try Status Time Reports app developed by our team. It mainly provides reports and gadgets based on how much time passed in each status.

Here is the online demo link, you can see it in action and try without installing the app. For your case, you can have a look at Time in Status for Each Issue, Lead Time for Each Issue, Cycle Time for Each Issue reports.

For further details, you can have a look at Status Time Reports How to Videos.

For cycle time and lead time, you can have a look at Cycle Time and Lead Time in Jira: Productivity Measurement with Two Critical Parameters article.

  • This app has a dynamic status grouping feature so that you can generate various valuable reports as time in status, time in assignee, status entry dates and status counts, cycle time and lead time, average/sum reports by any field(e.g. average in progress time by project, average cycle time by issue creation month).
  • You can search issues by Project, Issue Type, Status, Assignee, Issue Creation/Resolution Date(and any other Date field) and JQL Query.
  • Status durations are calculated according to the working calendar you define. Once you enter your working calendar into the app, it takes your working schedule into account too. That is, "In Progress" time of an issue opened on Friday at 5 PM and closed on Monday at 9 AM, will be a few hours rather than 3 days.
  • You can set different duration formats.
  • You can export reports in CSV file format and open them in MS Excel.
  • You can also add this app as a gadget to your Jira dashboards and reach “Status Time” from Issue Detail page.
  • You can enable/disable access to Status Time reports&gadgets and Issue Detail page per project, users, groups or project role.

If you are looking for a completely free solution, you can try the limited version Status Time Reports Free.

Hope it helps.

Hello @Lisa Rockhill ,

If you want to see a report at the assignee level, the Timepiece - Time in Status for Jira application which is built by my team at OBSS is the suitable tool for your needs. It is available for both Jira Cloud, and Data Center.

Time in Status mainly allows you to see how much time each issue spent on each status and on each assignee

Time in Status offers several report types for your case:

They are Status Duration per Assignee or Assignee Duration per Status reports  which shows how much time each assignee spent on each Status. These reports show a list of issues by default so you can see the metric values for each issue separately. Please refer to the screenshots below.

Assignee Duration Per Status:

You can easily use your predefined sprints as filter type and you can create reports calculated specially for your sprints.

For all numeric report types, you can calculate averages and sums of those durations grouped by the issue fields you select. All these report types, including averages and sums, can be turned into charts.

The app calculates its reports using already existing Jira issue histories so when you install the app, you don't need to add anything to your issue workflows and you can get reports on your past issues as well.

Time in Status reports can be accessed through its own reporting page, dashboard gadgets, and issue view screen tabs. All these options can provide both calculated data tables and charts. And the app has a REST API so you can get the reports from Jira UI or via REST. Also you can export the reports in to various formats easily.

Visit Timepiece - Time in Status for Jira to explore how our JIRA add-on can revolutionize your metrics measurement process. Enjoy a 30-day free trial to experience the full range of features.

If you wish, you can also schedule a live demo. We will provide a comprehensive overview of the application and address any inquiries you may have.

Hope it helps,

Gizem

Hi @Lisa Rockhill,

if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a number of so-called history columns that aren’t natively available - including time in status, and time between created and resolved - as well as a range of advanced features, including the ability to group your issues by any issue field(s).

With these, you can build a report like the one you're looking for in just a couple of clicks:

sprint-time-in-status-report.gif

All these data can also be used across JXL's other advanced features, such support for (configurable) issue hierarchies, issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting.

As you've probably noticed, there's actually a number of Marketplace apps operating in this space. You may already know that you can trial any app for free for 1 month, and depending on the size of your size, it may be free forever. So if an app is an option for your, perhaps try a few and see which works best for you!

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes

Hi @Lisa Rockhill

If you are open to try out a mktplace solution, to get this data you can have a look at our app.

Time in Status Reports

The app has 20+ reports. The time with assignee and time in status reports can easily meet these use cases. Also you can group your statuses to define your own resolution time to find how much time each issue took to complete. Whats more you can easily export these reports as a JSON feed to Power BI or other BI tools for further analysis and reporting.

The app is free upto 10 users. Do try it out.

Hi @Lisa Rockhill

It's Mary from Planyway

Creating a detailed report in Jira that shows issues assigned to each person, the number of days each issue was in a specific status, and the total number of days to close the issue involves a few steps. Jira offers various reporting capabilities, but you might need to use a combination of built-in features and possibly some marketplace add-ons for more detailed tracking. Here’s a general approach:

1. Use Jira's Built-In Reports

First, check the built-in reports that Jira offers:

  • Workload Pie Chart Report: Shows the relative workload for assignees of all issues in a filter.
  • User Workload Report: Shows the workload for a particular user, including assigned issues and remaining estimates.
  • Time Tracking Report: Displays how much time was spent on issues.

These reports might give some of the information you need but may not provide the level of detail about the status duration for each issue.

2. Create a Custom Dashboard

You can create a custom dashboard to view issues by assignee:

  • Create a Filter: Create a filter that shows issues assigned to each user within a specific scrum board.
  • Add Gadgets: Use gadgets like the 'Issue Statistics' or 'Filter Results' to display issues per assignee. You can customize columns in the 'Filter Results' gadget to show certain fields.

3. Use JQL (Jira Query Language)

JQL can be used to create detailed queries to extract specific information:

  • Write queries that filter issues based on assignee, status, and other relevant fields.
  • You can use JQL to create a filter that shows issues in each status and their duration.

4. Explore Marketplace Add-Ons

For tracking the time an issue spent in each status, you might need to use a Jira add-on:

  • Add-ons like PlanywayeazyBI Reports and Charts for Jira or Time in Status can provide detailed insights, including time spent in each status.

5. Export and Analyze Data

If Jira's built-in tools aren't sufficient:

  • Export Data: You can export issues to Excel or another format and analyze them there.
  • Custom Scripts: For more complex needs, you might use the Jira API and write custom scripts to fetch and analyze data.

Hi @Lisa Rockhill

EazyBI is one of the alternatives in the marketplace for creating custom reports.

You can also use dashboard gadgets to see results in different ways.
