Resolution button closes issue, Close button resolves issue

I am confused by the default workflow scheme. When the "Resolve Issue" button is clicked the status is set to Closed. When the "Close Issue" button is clicked the status is set to Resolved. Why is it bass-ackwards?

You're not using the default workflow if that is happening

Two scenarios could do this:

  1.  You're using a copy of the workflow that has been changed (and broken)
  2. Someone has renamed the Closed and Resolved status (and hence broken the default workflow)

I suspect it's 2, and if it is, then I would rename them back and see who screams.  Then tell them not to break it again.

It could be. I work for a state and JIRA is used by different departments, each with their own JIRA admin with a centralized JIRA system admin group. If other departments were like ours we were given zero training so I could easily see another group screwing around with the default, not realizing it affects everyone.

Thanks for the answer.
