Resolution field does not show default value 'unresolved'

Marco Schöning June 4, 2019

Dear community,

For a specific Jira project the default value 'unresolved' of the field 'resolution' does not appear. The field is empty. At other Jira projects the default value 'unresolved' is automatically set when I create a task.

Is there any option I don't know where I can set any default value for the field resolution?

Best regards

Marco

Hello @Marco Schöning

The default value of resolution is "unresolved" , it seems the field is hidden for you.

You can check the exact cause by clicking on "where's my field"

Thank you for all quick answers!

After I "showed" the field 'resolution' in the view screens unresolved is now default for all new created issued.

There should never be a default value of "unresolved".  I think your Jira is broken.

Hello @Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

I think Marco meant the default system supplied value and not the default value and because the field resolution was hidden in field configuration screen hence it was not visible. But after making the field visible in the field configuration screen he can see the field like below screenshot

Ah, I see, I misread it.

As long as "unresolved" is not being selected from the field, I'm happy.

@Marco Schöning  , could you check whether this field is hidden in the field configuration schemes of this project in question?

Btw, the default value by design is 'Unresolved'. It is not a value but it just means none.

The way this question is phrased leads me to think of a couple of unusual things that you might have got.

>For a specific Jira project the default value 'unresolved' of the field 'resolution' does not appear. The field is empty. At other Jira projects the default value 'unresolved' is automatically set when I create a task.

You can do this with certain javascript and behaviour tricks (although they cannot be recommended as they break in interesting ways in many cases), you should look for one of them being applied to the project.

But...

>At other Jira projects the default value 'unresolved' is automatically set when I create a task.

This implies you have a broken Jira.

  • The resolution should not be on the create screen (unless you do have a genuine case for always creating issues of that type that are already closed as they are created).  Equally, you should not have it on the edit screen either.
  • There should never be a resolution of "unresolved" available.  You should rename that immediately to "do not use, broken"
