Run a testcase with multiple steps against different sets of input data

I'm new to JIRA and assume I'm missing something obvious.

We have a multi-step testcase, where each step has placeholder for an input value to that step e.g. username for step 1 and severity for step 2.  I've currently defined this testcase "template" once, then created a second testcase where each step's Action says to run the template and each step's Data is a different set of inputs.

Is there a better way to structure these kind of testcases?

I think I just answered my own question. 

I really did do a lot of searching before posting, but after hitting send, I realized I never used the word "parameterized" in my search. That was the key.
