Searching for Confluence page from JIRA does not work

We recently linked our JIRA (v7.3.6) and Confluence (v6.3.2) applications. Most of the functionality appears to work however we have run across an issue that we are unsure how to get around.

From JIRA, when creating a link to a Confluence page or content, we are offered the option to search for a Confluence page:

When we select this option, we are presented with the following error message:

content_could_not_be_accessed.pngThe resolution seemed obvious at first - enable the Remote API feature within Confluence. However, when searching for documentation on how to enable this feature, we are greeted by a disclaimer discouraging us from doing so:

remote_apis_deprecated.png

https://confluence.atlassian.com/conf65/enabling-the-remote-api-939701838.html

So, if these APIs were deprecated several versions ago, what is the solution to our original issue? Any help is greatly appreciated! We don't want to enable this outdated functionality if there is a better way.

@Kristopher Kees, The Confluence Remote API Add-on is still there.  Head over to your Manage Add-ons page, change the filter to System or All add-ons and do a browser search for Confluence Remote API.  Make sure this is enabled.

Thanks Peter. We did find it however were not sure we should enable a deprecated bit of functionality. Will this affect Atlassian support? Is it still safe to enable and use? Is there an alternative way to make this work?

It just seems odd that they would deprecate functionality that is required to make the Confluence/JIRA connectivity work properly.

I would enable it for things to work.  It is in all my systems.
