Separating a Cascading Parent from Child in a report, dashboard or filter

I'm trying to find a way to only report on Parent of a cascading field or just have the Child show up on a filter/dashboard. 

For example: I want to create a dashboard graph that is filtered by Child of a cascading field.

You can create a JQL filter using the cascadeOption() syntax to filter by the specific child of a cascading field. For example, if the cascading field is called "Geographic Area" and the specific child is "Raleigh", you can use the following syntax in your JQL filter:

"Geographic Area" = cascadeOption("Raleigh")
