I have installed JIRA on a VM machine, after several failed attempts at installing MySQL, I finally got MySQL configured. I had originally installed JIRA first and applied the license that I had, but now after returning to the original state of my VM and installing MySQL and then JIRA, I'm get message that it is unable to confirm the JIRA license. By returning to a previous VM snapshot, does that generate a new Server ID every time, and if so how do I generate a new license key
Dear Donald,
welcome to Atlassian Community. If you installed Jira from scratch, a new server ID is generated and you need to create a new trial license as during your first installation attempt. You can not apply the license generated with the old server ID to the new installation.
I hope this clears things up a bit.
Kind regards,
Tobias
Thank you for the response, but I'm not using a trial license. It is a purchased license, so do I need to call support to generate a new license key.

Hi @Donald Kemp

Your server id should not be changed each time you revert to a previous snapshot. To my knowledge, your server id should match the one in the snapshot.
If necessary, you can also update your server to the old one also if you want to as described here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/change-the-server-id-for-an-instance-of-jira-server-285839562.html
You should be ale to apply your license even when the server id changes.

@Ismael Jimoh , as Donald mentioned by going back to his previous snapshot he had to reinstall Jira. From my experience this definitely creates a new server ID und the license created previously is no longer valid.
To make sure I’m still up to date I checked the Atlassian docs and found this article: https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/change-the-server-id-for-an-instance-of-jira-server-285839562.html
@Donald Kemp , do you have the old server ID available? There is a documented process to restore it. Otherwise I think you have to contact Atlassian support to migrate the license to the new server ID.
Kind regards,
Tobias

Ah my understanding was that he had JIRA already installed in the old snapshot so reverting would have meant the old server id would still be in place.
