Share issues between several jira instances?

I need to share some information between two (sometimes even 3) Jira instances. On my side it's a team-managed instance, on the other side it's a company managed instance.

So far I (kind of) help myself with referenced issues on both sides.

Example: In the custom text field "external reference" in my Jiras issue [myCompanyIssue-1234], I paste the URL of the other Jiras issue [otherCompanyIssue-567] and vice versa (custom field in the other Jira with the link to my Jiras issue).

Of course this is all manual work! Is there probably an easier/better approch to share issues between several Jira instances?

Am I the only one facing this challenge?

Hey @Olivier Wehrli

there are lots of people facing challenges with multiple Jira instances.

My main question to start it off would be: What information do you want to share?

  • Does everyone have access to the other instances and you simply want to express dependencies between them? Then you might want to look into creating an application link between them and link the issues as detailed in the link by @Alexander Hohmann
  • Do you want to synchronize some fields between them? If it's only a handful of fields, you might want to come up with a Jira automation. If it's getting more complex also with attachments and comments involved, I'd recommend using an issue sync app like ours (Backbone Work Sync).

Curious to hear more about your use case.

Cheers,
Matthias.

Thanks @Matthias Gaiser _K15t_ and @Alexander Hohmann !

It's mainly like business ideas and changes on one side, it-solutions on the other. So it is most of all about dependencies like ..."hey, business guys can test now as developers deployed a fix." or similar.

I'll check your inputs and see if one might fit.

Thanks a lot.

cheers,
Olivier
