Smart Commits are not working for my account

Tracy Sells December 20, 2018

We have been using JIRA and Bitbucket for a while.  Others are able to get smart commits to work.  Mine would not for a long time, then they did for like a day, now they aren't working again.

Setup / Info

  • Using TortoiseHG to manage local repository.
  • Using SSH to connect
  • Global Setting for Commits is set to my email address which is a match for JIRA and Bitbucket.
  • Commits are showing up in the Jira ticket just fine.
  • If I go into Bitbucket, all of my changesets are showing valid against my account (aka my Avatar shows up on them).
  • This happens for any repository (even newly created ones)
  • Others in my same environment work
  • I've compared my settings to there's, no difference

Does anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like you may be making a syntactic error. The feature doesn't come and go once it's enabled.  I'd suggest reading over the docs on Smart Commits and pay attention to some of the specifics of the examples they give. Some of the commands have a very specific syntax that needs to be used in order to work. Others require that you have permission to perform the action in Jira, so those are some possible sources of problems.  Syntax is the most common thing that we see when we work with clients that have issues with Smart Commits. Another thing to check is that your email address doesn't appear on more that one account in Jira. I hope that helps.

The syntax is not the issue, unfortunately.  That was one of the first things we tested.  I even copied and pasted the commit text exactly from someone else's commit.  The same issue occurs where their's came through just fine, and mine did not.
