Square Brackets in JIRA comment or description doesn't link to Confluence page

I can remember a feature that links a Confluence page to a JIRA issue when using the square brackets.

When I wrote the following text in the description or comment field of a JIRA issue, JIRA generated a link to the corresponding Confluence page of the same space (identified with the space key):

[my confluence page title]

If I want to use another space, I had to add the space key in front of the page title:

[OTHERSPACE:my confluence page title]

But this feature doesn't work anymore. Is it because of a missing plugin? Or because of a wrong configuration? Do we need an extra Application Link configuration?

Note: We moved from JIRA OnDemand to a self-provided JIRA standalone installation.

You also can associate entities of two linked applications. For example, you could associate a JIRA project with a Confluence space. This allows you to take advantage of additional integration features like link rendering, which lets you create links to issues or pages in the project or space using a simple textual reference, e.g. [JRA-1234], [myConfluenceSpace:Test Page].

On another webpage I found this statement:

The new version of application links bundled with JIRA 4.3 (and any newer versions of JIRA after JIRA 4.3) no longer provides the ability to render links to external apps included in comments or text fields. This includes the capability to refer to a Confluence Page, a Cruicible Review, or a FishEye Changeset.

So I think this feature is disabled now for our JIRA 6.1 installation :-(

But there is a plugin for JIRA which maybe helps: Application Links Link Renedering Unfortunately it's only available for JIRA <= 5.1.8. :-(

Summarized: For now we have no solution, but I think I found the answer of my question.

I don't know such a feature, maybe this was a plugin? You can link an Jira issue and a Confluence page via issuelinks (Link > Confluence Page), but unfortunately no within a description or comment.

I don't know if this was a plugin - maybe a special one for OnDemand customers? If I knew this plugin's name I could search for it in Marketplace, but I was never aware of such "extra" feature ...

Linking via the "menu" of an issue is a nice workaround for new issues. But all our existing issues have the tags like "[SPACE:Page Title]" in there descriptions / comments. It's too hard to link each of them manually via menu :-)

So I'm waiting for other user who know this plugin and can say me the name.

Hi Doreen, I am missing the same functionality.

I've been searching in vain for the plugin name, but I do remember that it was an atlassian-supported plugin. I sure wish they'd just include this as default functionality.

Hey Doreen, the great news is... IT STILL WORKS!! :)

Thank you so much for the link! I never would have found it.

You just need to download the .jar file from the link you provided above, and then you need to UPLOAD the add-on file in the area where you "Manage add-ons."

It will tell you that it's incompatible, but it's only incompatible in name. In practice.. it works!
