Status button of the Jira ticket has changed its position

Dear Support,

We've noticed that the Status button (used to move a ticket from Open to another state) has changed its position.

  • Previous position: Above the Details tab on the right side of the screen.

  • Current position: Below the Jira title on the left side of the screen.

Drawbacks of the current position:
You now have to scroll past all the comments to reach the Status button, which is inconvenient.

Is there any guidance on how to revert it to the previous layout?

I want to second this - the new position of the Status button is highly inconvenient.

Previously, it was easily accessible on the right-hand panel. Now, having it under the ticket title means we have to scroll down past all comments to change status, which is inefficient, especially for tickets with long discussions.

Please consider adding an option to customize or revert to the previous layout.

This just happened to us today! Why did they move it, and can we reset to the right side which doesn't move when we scroll down the page?

So apparently this change was announced in July 2025 - and many people complained both then and now. But they were ignored and the change has been rolled out without a way to revert.

Atlassian needs to start listening to its customers. They are making constant changes with no transparency on their plan and without consideration on the impact on their customers!

This seems like such an unnecessary change? Why would a ticket Status randomly be underneath the ticket Summary/Title vs in the Details with the rest of the context fields?

Or at least provide us the option to decide where we would like for it to live :)

If you are scrolling through a ticket, you can't quickly reference it on the side panel, but have to scroll all the way back up to see it, as it gets hidden with a scroll right away.

And everything with the UI is being shifted heavy on the left side of tickets and product now. There's no balance.

The same has happened to me, and it makes navigating and viewing tickets at a glance incredibly cumbersome.  I looked through account settings to try to turn this OFF, and GO BACK, and there is no setting to turn off this terrible change.  Please add a toggle for this new feature.

Please put the ticket status button back where it's been for years! Don't make improvements just for the sake of improvement. This is a bad example of UX design. Users have gotten used to it over the years, and now, when I automatically want to see the ticket status, it's not there

Some of the users on our instance have the same issue with SOME work items. Reloading the page with Ctrl+F5 worked to have the button back above the details though.

Ctrl+F5 worked for us too!

Not sure who is related, but surprisingly, it was returned to the previous state.

Same! Back to normal on our end as well.

We experienced that forced update as well, an extremely poor decision.

First issue - scrolling
As others have mentioned, the typical workflow goes like this: you’re working on a ticket in the middle of the content, you leave a comment, then check or change the status. Previously, the panel was right there - always visible, always accessible. Now, u need to go up, some tickets have 3-6 scrolls of text, some 30+ comments you have to go thought to reach the status control.

Second issue - placement
For nearly 20 years, people have been accustomed to seeing it on the right. That consistency matters.

I understand the intention, minimizing movement for smaller tickets where most content is in the summary. But that approach fits lightweight tools like trello, or at worst, Team-managed projects. Jira Software, however, should not be compromised by these “one-size-fits-all” changes.

If you want to keep it, fine, but make it movable, so we can throw it back to the right 'tech' section of the ticket.

I agree, this is very inconvenient, as is the rest of the new design. That does not improve the usage. Please stop introducing these unnecessary changes, or at least provide users with the option to customize them.

I just now received this update and, while I'm generally a huge fan of all the great work the Jira product team has been making, this change is HORRIBLE.  I keep my comments sorted from oldest to newest.  After I've reviewed all the comments, I'm ready to re-status my work item, and now I have to scroll ALL THE WAY back to the top of the ticket.  Status position should be static and not move as I scroll through the commentary.

I know there's a work item under consideration to allow status field to be positioned wherever the user wants, but until something like that (or the ability to make it a pinned field) is implemented, I wanted to voice my utter frustration with this user experience update (failure).

I don't remember seeing this anywhere in the updates for the design! Is there a place to vote to return it or at least edit the location? The new place is not a great choice!

I'm hoping they freeze the Summary, Status and Resolution and/or give an option to put status back.  I looked at Configure today, and Status shows up under Details section with no options to change it.

It has changed its position again...

  • Previous position: Above the Details tab on the right side of the screen.

  • Current position: Below the Jira title on the left side of the screen.

The same has happened in my Jira instance, however it seems to only be in my business projects, not software projects.
