Story points are lost for some reason when an issue is moved to another project of the same type in Jira Server.
There is no Story Points field in the project screens.
Estimation is set to "Story Points" in the project board.
In the project board, when clicking on an issue in the board, the issue preview appears on the right hand side. Such preview includes an "Estimate" field. When hovering over the field the "Story Points" tooltip appears. This is where users enter the story points estimate.
When moving issues with a story point estimation to another project of the same type, such estimation is lost. We tried adding a "Story Points" custom field to the projects, but it did not work. Estimation is lost.
So my question would be, what Jira fields actually hold the story point estimation provided in the "Estimate" field in the backlog preview for issues?
How can we maintain the provided story point estimates when moving issues to another project of the same type?
Thanks in advance
Antonio
Hi @Antonio Pascual ,
Estimate fields ("Original Estimate" & "Remaining Estimate") are called Time Tracking fields in Jira.
Can you check if "Time Tracking" is present on target project screen. If not, please add it on screen and then give it a try.
Thank you for your reply. Yes, I confirm that the Time Tracking filed is available in the project screens. I think that the story points estimate I referred to in my description (the one you can enter in the issue preview of the board backlog) must be managed differently by Jira. I think it has nothing to do with the "Original Estimate" field that "Time Tracking" enables.

Hi @Antonio Pascual ,
Since "Original Story Points" field is used when entering Story Points from boards. Please check in custom fields section if you also have a custom number field for Story Points which is being used in the target project.

Both projects share the same configuration. Initially there was no Story Points field in the projects, but then I added a Story Points custom field of number type to the screens (shared by both projects). When moving the issues from one project to the other, the story points estimated in the original issues are lost in the target project. It looks like the "Story Points" custom field I added is not used. I can't find the "Original Story Points" field in our Jira instance.
