Hi I wonder how to add subtask icon under story title. in another project it was there and I was able to add subtasks under the current story but no I cant find any subtask icon. please help!
Hello,
You would ideally see child creation option under Epic like how you see in screenshot below
Under story or task or bug you can create sub-task by clicking on task button you see in screenshot below.
But please note that your project should have sub-task issue type configured in issue type schema to see this option
"But please note that your project should have sub-task issue type configured in issue type schema to see this option" - and how to configure it?

And one more question, are child issue and subtask same thing?

To configure sub-task, please navigate to project setttings -> Issue type schema -> Modify and add sub-task issue type.
If you required dedicated workflow for sub-task then you should also configure workflow and associate to sub-task issue type.
On your question, child issue and sub-task may not be same. EPIC is parent and its child issues could be story, task, bug or even custom issue type. Sub-tasks will come under 2nd level of hierarchy, that is under stoty, task, bug or custom issue type.

It looks like you created a new issue type and called it Sub-Task but it's a standard issue type. Can you confirm this.

It does exist in your Project as well. Sub-task issue type is a child issue type and can be created for a parent (Story, Task, Bug). The tick icon that you see under the Issue Title is meant for adding sub-tasks to an issue.
