TM4J: Best way of importing a large amount of test cases

Creating testcases in TM4J using datasets is an efficient way of creating many testcases using the same test steps.

When there is a need of creating many test cases, one better way is to define the testcases in an excel sheet and import them to TM4J.

Is there a better way to import many testcases to TM4J? From a database for example. I'm thinking 1000+ testcases.
