I would like the option to create a table template which I can populate into my descriptions. 

Is there a way to create something in description and then save it in a way it can be used for future tickets?

Hi, Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

While it is not possible to create a template for a custom field, you can create a default value for you field, if that field is wiki style, you can show a prefilled table that your users would complete.

By default, there is no possibility to do it for Description field.

You can achieve it using 3rd party addons, for example, our Issue Templates Agent for Jira. With this app, you can define templates not only for description but other fields. Also you can define different templates depending on project and issue types.
