Moving JIRA from Server to Cloud base

Jennifer Harikrishin September 17, 2018

Currently we're on a server based instance of JIRA and looking to move to Cloud base.

1.Would Atlassian help us set up Atlassian Access in the cloud?

2.Can Atlassian migrate our JIRA Software on prem data to the cloud?

3. In the cloud, is Atlassian responsible for updates of patches and maintenances of all plugins and add-ons such Confluence, Tempo, PDF exporter etc?

4. We currently integrate with our ITSM platform- Servicenow- What do we need to do to integrate this with our JIRA cloud instance?

That's correct.  You'll need to read up on the Cloud versions documentation to see if any/all of it migrates.  I've had massive problems with Tempo data in the past personally, but I don't know if it's improved.

I can tell you that none of the ScriptRunner stuff can come across.  Cloud doesn't support half the functionality that Server does, and the framework is totally different.  SR for Cloud is totally different for SR for Server.  You'll have to discard any Behaviours, conditions and validators, and completely rewrite other stuff.

What was the solution for migrating Tempo data?

Migrations between Tempo Server and Cloud ( and vice versa) are currently not supported (https://tempo-io.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/TEMPO/pages/201359381/Can+I+migrate+between+Tempo+for+Cloud+and+Tempo+for+Server)

I saw in some other discussions that some data from plug ins are not fully migrated over. We have a few plug ins and want to know if this issue has been fixed or is the functionality not available? The plug ins we have are Scriptrunner, PDF view Plugin Exporter, Tempo Timesheet, and qTest.

Better PDF Exporter is available for cloud, and templates are 90-95% interchangeable between Cloud and Server/Data Center. There are minor differences due to limitations in Atlassian Cloud, but most template will just work.

Thank you!! Is there a Dev Environment that comes with the purchase of Cloud Licensing?

  1. Not unless you ran into significant problems where errors were occurring.
  2. No, they do not yet offer that as a service, although again, they'll do some support, and the last summit (Barcelona 2018), they announced they have some migration code that they will be sharing soon.
  3. Yes, they upgrade the applications frequently, and that drives the small selection of built-on Apps you might take with Cloud.  For most Apps, you are relying on the vendor to update as Cloud updates.  Remember that Cloud Apps and Server Apps are very very different things, and when you migrate, you may need to plan for significant changes in Apps as well as the different UI and functions Cloud has for the core applications.
  4. Probably buy and (re)configure the Servicenow connector App for Cloud.
