I am trying to connect my GitLab to Jira but I am having problems. It connects and detects my project, lists it, but when I go back to the application settings, it does not appear and I can log back into my GitLab account. This prevents me from continuing with the configuration from GitLab because, in order to proceed with the integration step with Jira from GitLab, it requires that the project already be integrated into Jira. This is the exact message I get:

“This integration is enabled automatically when a group is linked in the GitLab for Jira Cloud app and cannot be enabled or disabled through this form.”

I am the admin for both projects.

Hello, Good day. On Jira side go to Settings >> apps >> Gitlab app >> make sure you see the link. If there is no link and select "Get started: to add the link. You need to check the popup blocker settings on the browser.

On Gitlab side, go to project settings >> Integration and configure Jira integration.

@Daniel Antonio Bohorquez Toloza , hi.

The GitLab → Jira connection is controlled at the GitLab group level, not per project. That’s why Jira says you can’t enable/disable it in that form.

What to do:

  1. Make sure you linked the right GitLab group (not just a single project).

  2. Confirm you’re a GitLab Group Owner and a Jira admin.

  3. In Jira, check Apps → Manage apps → GitLab for Jira Cloud and verify the group shows as connected—project toggles aren’t used here.

If it still behaves oddly, unlink and re-link the group, try an incognito window, and double-check you don’t have multiple groups causing confusion.

Still stuck? Send group + project IDs to Atlassian Support so they can look it up in their logs.

Regards, D.

Hi @Daniel Antonio Bohorquez Toloza, I'm the community manager at Exalate.

The message usually appears because the GitLab for Jira Cloud app manages integrations at the group level, not at the individual project level. That’s why the project doesn’t show up in the app settings, even though it’s detected during setup. If the group is correctly linked, and you’re still not seeing it, I’d recommend raising a support ticket, so Atlassian can confirm whether the connection is being recognized properly.

Good luck with the integration!
