Hey Guys, is there a way that the progress is based on the Story points of the User stories? As opossed to the % on how many User stories are left.

Hi @mario amaya

Are you using a company-managed project? Are you using a Scrum type board or Kanban type board?

  • Regardless of what type of board (Scrum or Kanban), you can use estimates - time or story points.
  • But you can only configure Scrum boards for estimation (as per the article) because this configuration is then used for certain reporting metrics which are not applicable for Kanban.

If you're using a Company-Managed Scrum Board, you can Navigate to the Scrum board and click in the three dots menu (...) > Select Board settings > Estimations and select "Story points"

By doing this, the percentage bar in your Epic panel in the scrum board will display based on the Story points of its child issues, displaying its exact estimation when hovering the mouse over it

However, please note that when you click open to view the epic, the % complete bar is actually still by issue count. To get the progress based on story points, you'll have to view that in the epics panel for now. I understand this might not be an ideal location to view this type of data.

Atlassian has an open feature improvement request to address this that you can vote and/or watch here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-74269

Hi @mario amaya

welcome to the community!

If you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, here's another app that you might like: JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you'd do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a number of advanced features, including the ability to view your issues in issue hierarchies or groupings (or any combination thereof) and to calculate sum-ups across groups of issues. With that, you can easily calculate such progress for your epics, e.g. like so:

epic-sum-up-v2.gif

You may already know that you can trial any app for free for 1 month, and depending on the size of your site, it may be free forever - so perhaps try out a few apps and see which one works best for you.

Disclaimer: I work on JXL.

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes

Hi @mario amaya

If you are open for a mktplace app to visualize the Epic hierarchy on the issue screen, you can try out our add-on.

Issue Hierarchy Reports

Hey @mario amaya ,

welcome to the Atlassian Community.

Just in case your open to using an addon in the mean time. I want to suggest Epic Sum Up.

With Epic Sum Up you can easily track the Story Points progress with a progress bar in the issue panel. It looks like this:

Disclaimer: I'm from the company that develops Epic Sum Up.

Hope this helps

Johanna
