Time Remaining Estimate is Blank

Eamon McCracken March 15, 2023

The time remaining estimate will sometimes mirror the original estimate of issues (which I want), but sometimes it stays blank and I have to manually update it before starting a sprint. I will include a screenshot of the estimation settings on my board. I can't find any discernable difference between the issues to explain why the time remaining estimate doesn't automatically reflect the original estimate on all issuesEstimation Settings.png.

Hi @Eamon McCracken I don't see the screen you've shown above on my system, so not sure how much help I can offer. Two possibilities come to mind:

  • My understanding is that the Original Estimate and Remaining Estimate values start out "linked", so that the Original Estimate value will populate the Remaining Estimate field when the Original Estimate value is entered for the first time, and that this link will be maintained (changes to Original Estimate will propagate to Remaining Estimate) until you update the Remaining Estimate value (by logging Time Spent or simply editing Remaining Estimate).  After that, changes to Original Estimate will not propagate to Remaining Estimate. Maybe this is what you're seeing?
  • Jira bug?

Hi Kelly, thanks for the response but even the initial input of Original Estimate is not producing a value in the Remaining Estimate field. Maybe it is a bug, it seems like I have not had this issue before a few weeks ago.2023-03-20_10-15-36.png
