Time roll up to Epic.

In reviewing the many posts about this, can someone explain to me why there is not roll up to the Epic level?

Isn't the idea to not log time against an Epic, but log it against the children and the children's children?

It is built out for subtasks to roll up to their parent, wouldn't that same concept be carried to a Story/Task?

Yes, I know there are apps for this, but this should be a native functionality.

Dear @Jason Chayer ,

In many agile project management tools, Epics are used to group a large body of work that can be broken down into smaller tasks or stories. The idea is that these smaller items (like stories, tasks, and subtasks) are where actual work is logged, including time tracking. The rationale behind this approach is that it's these smaller, more manageable items where work is actually performed and can be accurately estimated and tracked.

As for why time tracking doesn't automatically roll up to the Epic level.

Rolling up time from tasks to Epics can be technically complex, especially if tasks can belong to multiple Epics or if there are many layers of hierarchy. Some tools might avoid this feature to keep the system more straightforward and user-friendly.

Users who need this capability must rely on third-party apps or develop custom workarounds. Continued user feedback to Atlassian might influence the future inclusion of this feature.
