Top Level Planning - Where are Story Points

SDebaun October 10, 2023

I am trying to utilize Top Level Planning template.  The goal, if I understand the project type is that I can look at multiple projects, move the epics from each under an initiative and view a rolled up story point/capacity metric.

I see Story points as a customized field and it is associated to my project screens/issues.

But, it is not coming up as an available field to add as a column.

My hope was that this template would do what Epics don't, which is to roll up story points within epic's children issues for me so I can look at total points.

What am I missing?

Hey @SDebaun , the default estimation for the Plan created with the template is days. To change it to story points:

- Click on the Plan Settings in the side nav

- Change estimation unit to Story Points

- Click on the fields drop-down in the timeline page and add Stopy Points as a column

Let me know how that works

Cheers,

Hello @SDebaun

The template is simply helping you by creating the Project and an Advanced Roadmap Plan to go with it.

Refer to this article:

AR Plans are capable of rolling up Story Points. You can learn more about the roll-up capabilities here:

https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/roll-up-values-in-advanced-roadmaps/

You will have to set the View Settings for the Plan to enable the roll-up of story points.
