For the workflow of a certain work item I want all transitions to be possible, but that a warning pops up if you do certain transitions. I've seen a few discussions about this in these forums, but they all lead to installing some plugin which I don't want.
I've seen a solution (not fully explained) where you use a custom field with "Message Custom FIeld (for edit)" field type. If you use it in a screen it would give some sort of popup window. I did make a custom field with that specific type, but from there I am stuck as I don't know what to do. This is a link to the stack overflow form I came across:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6606386/how-to-add-new-dialog-on-workflow-transition-in-jira
Can somebody maybe tell me if this is really possible this way and if so how I would make it work with the custom field and screen?
There are a few questionable bits in that post you are referring to. One it was from 2012, which so much has changed I probably don't need to continue, but here we go, it is also for server and not cloud, and finally even on server in 2012 I do not believe there was ever a magic name for a field that would act as the user says, even if they did "remember correctly".
So now that I have beat up the stack overflow post, you would like a popup for some transitions, but you are probably using the "all" transition to go into most of your statuses. Some of the stack overflow post is correct. You need to go to the transitions you want a popup for, and add screens with the fields you'd like the user to edit. If you used the all, and only want the screen for certain transitions, you will need to create these specific transitions and add your screen.
Hey @Shawn Doyle - ReleaseTEAM,
Thank you for your response! That the post is from 2012 is a great point, I completely looked over that 😅. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.
Then for the screen, how do I make the screens I want with the "Message Custom FIeld (for edit)"? I don't really know how to edit the field. And also, to my understanding I can add HTML code to the field, is that true? I hope you can also help me with this.
I also realize there is a difference between general workflows and workflows for work types in a project. I have my workflow made for a specific work type. With that workflow I can not add a screen. I don't mind making a new workflow, but when I start making a workflow in general the statuses of my project are not there, so I don't know how to remake it.
