Im currently running JIRA 7.3.3 on a linux server. I attempted to upgrade using to the latest version using the guide I found here

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/upgrading-jira-manual-938846939.html

Unfortunately, when I run the installer, I get an error that says that there is already a JIRA installation in the path I selected. This is because I have a previous version obviously. Will the upgrade not work from here? Do I need to install to a new directory?

I obviously want all of my data and settings to come with the upgrade, so Im not sure what the best approach is.

@Tom_Depiera

It depends on method of installation you are used for new version and old version.

If it is manual install (zip or tar.gz file)

  • You will need to install new version in separate directory (you can use existing home folder)
  • Later on migrate proxy path etc (if any)

If it installer based installation you are using (.bin file)
