Turn off "Open with VS Code"

Today all my jira items have a link in the right sidebar that says "Open in VS Code".  My team does not use VS and I didn't add this. Anyone know where this came from or how I can turn it off?

Hi @Sam Newman ,

The “Open in VS Code” link in the Jira issue sidebar is part of Atlassian’s recent integration with Visual Studio Code, likely enabled via a Forge-powered app or browser extension such as:

  • Atlassian VS Code extension
  • SourceGraph integration
  • Or an admin-installed Forge/Connect app

This appears when a Jira site detects VS Code-related metadata (like Git links or the extension being active in your browser).

To remove or hide it:

Check for installed browser extensions:

  • Disable any Atlassian-related or VS Code-related browser extensions (like Atlassian for VS Code or SourceGraph).

Check Jira site apps (if you are a Jira admin):

  • Go to:
Jira Settings → Apps → Manage Apps
  • Look for anything related to VS Code or Forge apps that may have added this.

Check personal settings (if available):

  • Click your profile picture → Personal settings
  • See if there is any developer tool setting related to IDE integrations.

If you're not using VS Code, it’s safe to disable the extension or ignore the link. It doesn’t impact Jira functionality.

Hi Hari.

We have the GitHub for Atlassian app that links items to PRs in our repository, but I don't see any app related to VS or Forge. Would the GitHub app be adding the links to the items?
