I have a Kanban board in a company-managed project.

When I go to the Timeline view - I am expecting that I can add individual issues to the time line by clicking on the horizontal line and dragging a box to set start date and end date. However, I can only do this on certain issues and I don't understand why.

For example, I can click next to the Epic ticket to set the start and end date (red box) but I can't do the same for the child issue under it. Screen Shot 2024-02-04 at 7.15.50 PM.png

I am expecting to be able to create a full timeline with start and end dates for each issue in my epic. How do I do this? Do I need specific permissions?

Hi @Shae Smith

It's Mary from Planyway:)

I'm afraid it won't be possible due to Basic Roadmap limitations. You can only manage Epics there. If you'd like to visualize other issue types, you'll need to consider upgrading to Advanced Roadmap or using third-party apps like Planyway which visualizes all issue types on different timeline views.

Hey @Shae Smith

Good day!

I see you are referring to the basic Roadmap feature(timeline) in Jira's company-managed projects.

In the basic Roadmap, you can only set date ranges (start and end dates) for Epics, not for individual issues or tasks. This is a limitation of the basic Roadmap feature. The Roadmap allows you to visualize your project's Epics over time, but it doesn't currently support adding a timeline for individual issues within those Epics.

If you want to plan start and end dates for individual issues or tasks, you would need to use Advanced Roadmaps, which is part of Jira Software Premium. With Advanced Roadmaps, you can create more detailed plans that include start and end dates for all issue types, not just Epics.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
