Unable to create subtasks for any task

I am unable to create subtasks for any task.

Whenever I click on subtasks icon on a task, add a task and hit enter..an entry is created but with an alert icon. Clicking on it always says "Check your connection". 

I am pretty sure that my connection is okay. This is not a device specific issue as it's happening for everyone on my team.

Any suggestions appreciated.
