The ability to move tickets along the Jira board has changed, so that now we are only able to drag and drop tickets into columns that already have tickets in. So we are unable to drag tickets into empty columns.
No workflow changes have been made since then. The things we have changed are:
I've tried adding the removed column back in and the issue still stands.
Same problem here, I think it's a bug. Can anyone pls take care of it?
Hey. We are also experiencing the same issue, which started last friday (the 19th). None of our configuration changed. The problem occurs in only 1 of our projects, the other projects are fine and work as expected and as previously used.
And to add a bit more detail, I can move an issue from column to column just fine using the status in the top right of the card (i.e. the board columns are correctly linked up to workflow statuses). Once I've moved one issue over to the column in this way, I can drag and drop other issues without a problem.
For me, this occurs with issues of different types (bug/task/story). Every ticket on the board is affected by the same workflow.

Hi Frank, exactly the same situation as us - started Friday 19th, multiple boards within the same project all working fine except for our one. Sounds like it could be a bug with Atlassian maybe if no solution can be found.

Thanks Robert! Was just about to raise an issue on there and suddenly this morning it has started working again. Must have been a bug. Thanks again for your help!

Hello,
Same issue here, and it's also happening in one project board only. The others are functional and I'm using the same workflow.
Anything ?
Thank you very much

Hello @alix ! Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
The closest we could determine is that this was some sort of bug. Are you able to contact Atlassian Support, or are you on the free plan?

We experience exactly the same. Dragging to columns that are empty is not possible anymore. Once there's one item in the column, dragging works again. Also, in the past the whole column showed the indication that an item could be dragged in that column. Now it's a very small and subtile blue line.
All this changed all of a sudden, somewhere last week.

Hello @Nick Dobbs ! Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
The way board columns work is that they are mapped to one or more workflow statuses. Even then, any conditions or validators for the transition have to be met to successfully move an issue from one column to another (one mapped status to another).
I would check to see what your mapping looks like and see if the statuses are properly mapped.

Hi Robert - thanks for the reply!
It's definitely not an issue with the mapping, have just tested what's happening:
This doesn't really make sense to me! But yeah it doesn't seem like an issue with status mapping - seems more like a UI issue with the board.

Are the tickets of identical issue type? If you have different issue types on the board, are they the same workflow?
Screenshots may help.

Issue types screenshotted below - one status per column, as said before nothing has changed here since it has stopped working, this project has been going for a few months and never had this issue.
Workflow type is managed at a higher level than myself but checked with the Project admin and he says no changes have been made recently.
