I am a system admin for our business Atlassian account. We have never had an issue linking epics to stories, or tasks, however the Epic Link field has all of a sudden stopped working as expected, and cannot find any epics.
A different approach to linking a ticket to an epic is adding it directly from the Epic Detail page, which works as expected. When clicking on the Epic Link field once created, the epic is filled, however no other epics can be found. If I clear this field, it cannot search the epic I just cleared.

This fixed itself a day later - it seems to have coincided with the announcement that all customers will be forced down the cloud product route.
