Unexpected exception during JIRA startup. This JIRA instance will not be able to recover

Angélique Brugnerotto December 17, 2018

Good evening support,

I use Jira Service Desk and Jira Software (7.10.2) from one year.
I shutdown my Jira Server. It's a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.
I reboot my server and Jira doesn't work anymore !!! This is a disaster.
I really need a quick help.
The Windows service "Atlassian Jira" is running.
Then when I access my website, the initialization occurs well but at the end, I have this error.

Can you help me quickly please ???
Many thanks for your help.
Best regards

That looks like there is something wrong with your database - the file it's referring to is a file the database keeps data in.  You'll need to talk to your DBAs about why it's missing.

Thanks for the quick answer.

It's me that have install and configure the server.  It's working fine from one year. I juste reboot the server, no change.

What can I do ? It's a big production server :-(

There's not a lot you can do other than find the missing files on the database.  It might be incorrect permissions, not actually "file not there".

If you can't find the fiels, then you'll need to start thinking about restoring from backups.

How can I find the fiels that are missing ?

The log has given you the name of the first file that is missing from the database server.

But I'm not a postgres expert, I don't know where it keeps files or what is in them

Angélique Brugnerotto December 17, 2018

Ok I find the file in a backup. The last time I have this file was on 12.12.2018

What is this file ? I have copy it from the backup, I will test, I'm waiting for the server reboots.

The file specified is 17402

Actually in the directory I have a file 17402_fsm and 17402_vm but not a 17402. I only need to recover the 17402 file or the 3 files ? (I don't know the linkg between this 3 files). They need to be at the same version ?

It works. You are fantastic! Thank you so much, you're saving my life. Do you just know what's going on with these _fsm and _vm files?

In a working postgres service, the files would be created and managed by the database service. there's no reason for them to be deleted.  I don't know how they might get deleted, I wouldn't expect the database to do it unless tables or possibly an entire database were dropped.

I have seen files go missing when a disk filled up and a write was attempted to existing files that would take them over the disk limit, but that wasn't on a database I'm afraid, so I can't say that's it.

Ok thanks for the explanation. I will live the _fsm and _vm file as they are in the production server, I don't restore these files from backup, only the missing file.

I say you a BIG THANKS !!! Thanks for your quick and complete help, very appreciate.

Is there a way to pay to have a technical support please ? It's really a disaster that our Jira server doesn't work anymore.
