Update attachment without changing url

My attachment as the standard url http://myserver/secure/attachment/16045/myimage.jpg

If I go into manage attachments I have the option to delete this attachment. I can then upload an updated one. The issue is if I have this url reference anywhere it is then a dead link.

Is there any way (plugin?) to update a loaded attachment without chnaging the url?

This is not possible currently. I have added a feature request - https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-27151
