Hi @Cristian Zuccalá ,

To upgrade Jira Data Center from version 8.17.0 to the latest version, you'll need to follow a series of incremental upgrades since direct jumps to the latest version from 8.17.0 might not be supported due to compatibility and changes in the versions.

Review Release Notes: Check Atlassian's official documentation for the release notes of each intermediate version between 8.17.0 and the latest version.
Upgrade Path: Proceed with incremental upgrades, moving to versions like 8.20.0, 9.4.14, and so on until you reach the latest version.
Plugin Compatibility: Check the compatibility of your plugins or apps with each new version. Some plugins might need updates or might not be compatible with newer Jira versions, which could impact your upgrade process.
Upgrade on test Environment: Perform the upgrades in your test environment following the specific upgrade instructions provided by Atlassian for each version.
Validate: After each upgrade, thoroughly test your Jira instance in the test environment to ensure everything works as expected.
Production Upgrade: Once you've successfully completed the upgrades in the test environment and ensured everything is working correctly, plan and execute the upgrades in your production environment following the same steps.

Atlassian's just release security bulletins- December 2023: Security Advisories for vulnerabilities that might affect your current version. Always refer to Atlassian's recommendations and security advisories to select the appropriate fixed LTS version.

Additionally, review the release notes and upgrade guides provided by Atlassian for each specific version you plan to upgrade to, as they contain important information about the upgrade process and any changes that might impact your instance.

Also, if you feel my input help you please accept the answer.

Regards,
Bhushan

Hello Bhushan, thank you very much for your response, luckily we do not have plugins, therefore it is not necessary to do so much testing, also, the idea is to do it in a test environment, I wanted to know if there is a way to know which jumps I must make, to get to version 9.12

Hi @Cristian Zuccalá ,

Thats great If you don't have any plugins; that simplifies things. You can indeed directly jump from version 8.17.0 to 9.12.0. However, it's essential to ensure compatibility with your database before the upgrade. You might need to upgrade the database along with Jira to ensure seamless functionality.
