Hi,
we want to upgrade our Jira from 7.12 to 8.5.3 (or higher) can we do it in one upgrade or do we need to upgrade first to intermediate release and from there to the latest release?
we are using Jira server with licences for 500 users
Hey @tali.hadar
You can upgrade from 7.6.x (Enterprise release) to 8.5.x (latest enterprise release) so while I can’t find anything explicit (only on my phone now), 7.12 to 8.5 as a single step should be fine. Your downtime will be longer than a normal upgrade as your first upgrade to 8.x will require a full locking reindex as the underlying Lucene platform was upgraded. If you can throw any extra processing at your environment (if it’s running on AWS/GCP/Azure or a VM with more capacity), this can help (you’ll also need to cha ge the allocated threads - https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/increase-speed-of-reindexing-in-jira-server-826879636.html ).
As always, you should do a test upgrade from a backup in a non production environment before doing your real prod environment.
