Maria Cracco September 10, 2025

Hi,

I'm using claude and mcp server to connect to jira.

I'm able to create ticket using mcp server and claude but I would like to link the tickets with an story with relation "is tested by"

how can I do this?

Thank you

Hi @Maria Cracco

Since your question is a bit abstract, my answer is too.

Big sigh of relief: you can use Jira Automation to do the job. But in order to process your tickets from Claude Code, you need to:

  • Have a trigger to start the automation. This could be a change in a certain field or even a custom field on the Claude issue itself, or even a specific part of the summary of the ticket that you control from Claude Code.
  • You can relate Jira work items to each other, but not with a relation named "is tested by"
What you can do is create a story with a name that is partly the same as the Claude issue, and extend that name with a suffix of a similar purpose using text operations available from Atlassian documentation. The relates to is defined from the Linked Issues field, which you can set to value "relates to". The Issue field then needs to be filled with the issuekey of your Claude issue (the triggerissue in your Automation).

A somewhat different approach would be to define a custom field "tested by". The Claude ticket could be expanded in that way to incorporate the test person, which eliminates the need to even create a separate story altogether.

Kind regards,
Dick
