Use existing issue option not showing in some project

Syed November 4, 2022

Project A:
Kanban Software (Team-managed)
Showed 'Choose and Existing Issue' option when adding child issue to Epic

Project B:
Bug tracking (Company-managed)
Not showing 'Choose and Existing Issue' option when adding child issue to Epic

The option 'Choose and Existing Issue' when adding child cases to an Epic is not shown in Project B. We can however go the individual issue and use Link Epic. But directly add existing issues from the Epic is so much user friendly then opening all the issues 1-by-1.
I understand that the Company-managed projects is administered differently. I tried customizing the Fields, Issue, Screens, but cant manage to get the option to show. Since Project A is team-managed, there's no way for me to see the settings for duplication.
It would be great if you can point me the exact place to edit for this option to show up. Thanks!

Hi @Syahril

Welcome to the Community!

If you're looking to update multiple issues you can put together a JQL search, and then run a bulk update against all the issues in your search results.

For example, if all the issues in Project B are to be added to the same Epic, you would navigate to https://<your-site>.atlassian.net/issues/ and select the project from the dropdown list. This would give you all the issues in the project, and then if you click the ellipses in the top right-hand corner, you'll have an option to Bulk Edit the issues.

Select the issues from the list on the first screen.

Select Edit.

Scroll down until you see the option to change the Epic Link.

and confirm.

You'll have to put together a JQL query that encompasses all of the issues you want to edit.

Thanks, Luis.

But this is not what I'm looking for. Why Epics in some projects have Choose an Existing Issue, and some don't.

From checking other projects in my organization, looks like all company-managed project Epics does not show this option. Is my observation correct?

Hey Syahril,

You are correct that particular feature is tied to functionality that exists only for team-managed projects and not company-managed projects.

Thanks again, Luis. Now I can move on to other stuffs :-)

Btw, any plans to add this feature to a company-managed project?
